Casa Kalma was conceived as a sanctuary — a home that embodies strength, protection, and serenity. The clients expressed a deep need for security and privacy, leading to an architectural response that feels understated from the street yet warm and embracing within.
The exterior presents a solid, grounded façade — a quiet gesture that shields the interior from the outside world. Behind this protective shell, the house unfolds around a lush central garden, the true heart of the project. This open core ensures natural ventilation and daylight reach every space, creating a home that breathes inward rather than outward. The experience is one of gradual revelation: calm and introverted at first, then expansive and luminous as one moves deeper inside.
Materiality plays a central role in expressing this balance between solidity and comfort. Continuous surfaces flow seamlessly from floor to ceiling in earthy textures, grounding the architecture in a sense of permanence. Carefully detailed wood elements add warmth and tactility, softening the structural rigor with moments of intimacy.
A soft terracotta hue envelops the entire house — inside and out, across floors and ceilings — creating visual continuity and timelessness. This unified palette reinforces the home’s atmosphere of calm resilience: a refuge that protects, embraces, and endures.
