CASA CALA

Casa Cala is a beachfront residence defined by a unique natural condition: a sand dune separating the property from the ocean, partially obstructing direct sea views. The clients wished for an uninterrupted connection with the horizon and the sunset, so the design sought to overcome this natural barrier without disturbing it.
The solution was to elevate the social area half a level above the natural terrain, creating a sense of continuity between interior and ocean. For economic and structural reasons, only this portion of the house was lifted—forming a light, open tropical pavilion that captures the sea breeze and frames the view. Beside it, a two-story volume houses the private areas: bedrooms on the ground floor, anchored and protected by the dune, and upper-level suites opening toward the ocean with sweeping views.
Bathrooms played a central role in the project. Each one is oriented and designed to face the ocean, with large openings that invite light, air, and the sound of the waves. The entire house was strategically rotated within the site, positioned far enough from the front boundary to preserve privacy while maintaining unobstructed ocean vistas. These bathing spaces become immersive experiences—private sanctuaries where architecture, landscape, and horizon merge seamlessly.
