HOUSE OF LILIES

Set atop a sloping site overlooking the Pacific, House of Lilies was conceived in dialogue with its most defining feature — three monumental Guanacaste trees standing at the crest of the property. Their presence, commanding yet serene, coincides with the most privileged ocean views, transforming what could have been a constraint into the very heart of the design narrative.
Rather than displacing them, the architecture embraces these trees as protagonists. The spatial concept unfolds around a vertical social core, whose soaring proportions mirror the height and grandeur of the Guanacastes. This central volume frames them with precision, allowing the trees to punctuate the architecture and become part of the daily ritual of inhabiting the house.
The interior experience blurs the boundary between built form and nature. Openings, transparencies, and alignments orchestrate a constant visual and spatial dialogue with the landscape. Light filters through the foliage, animating the interiors with shifting shadows and reflections, turning every moment of the day into a dynamic composition.
Structural design played a crucial role in protecting the ecosystem. Foundations were engineered to preserve the integrity of the root systems, ensuring the trees’ health and longevity. The result is an architecture that coexists — not competes — with nature: a home that breathes with the forest, framing both the trees and the horizon in a single, continuous gesture.
